Falling Star, New Year’s card in color aquatint by Tavik Frantisek Simon, 1877-1942, Bohemia, now Czech Republic.
Simon was a prolific painter, watercolorist and etcher and you can see his change in styles from the beginning of his career to the end. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Czechoslovakia, where he later became a professor.
Simon was largely ignored during the Communist era, but has gained attention in later years. He is a most delightful impressionist and realistic painter.
