Flappers reading the news of the day. Life Magazine, September 28, 1928. Artist: Russell Patterson (1893-1977).
In 1925, Patterson suddenly found his direction. He put aside his fine arts ambitions and turned his talents toward illustration. Drawing on his experience sketching beautiful women in Paris, he began adorning covers and interiors for magazines like College Humor and Judge, and later Life and Ballyhoo with his vivacious flappers.

oh my gosh their outfits!

the best part of my lizzie borden picture is that you can see the rest of my ax collection in the mirror’s reflection.

every line in this film is gold

Renault: I’ve often speculated why you don’t return to America. Did you abscond with the church funds? Run off with a Senator’s wife? I’d like to think that you killed a man. It’s the romantic in me.
Rick: It was a combination of all three.
Renault: And what in Heaven’s name brought you to Casablanca?
Rick: My health. I came to Casablanca for the waters.
Renault: What waters? We’re in the desert.
Rick: I was misinformed.

this movie: so sad, so funny. one of my all time favorites.
